Coaching • Mentoring • Future Pathways

Helping Students Discover Their Next Step.

Young people do not always need someone to give them the answer. Sometimes they need an experienced person who will listen, ask thoughtful questions, challenge their thinking, encourage their strengths and help them turn ideas into action.

Our approach

Guidance Without Taking Away Ownership

Our coaching and mentoring experiences help students develop greater confidence, direction, agency and future readiness.

The aim of coaching is not to create dependence. It is to help students increasingly think for themselves.

A good coaching conversation can help a young person organise their thinking, identify a goal, explore possibilities and decide what they will do next.

Mentoring adds another dimension: perspective from someone who has experience in areas the student may be exploring. Together, coaching and mentoring can complement school, family and Academy programs.

Why this matters

Young People Are Making Decisions in a Changing World

Students today are considering their future while technology, artificial intelligence, education and work continue to change. They may be asking:

  • What am I actually good at?
  • What interests me?
  • How can I become more confident?
  • How do I become a stronger communicator?
  • Which subjects should I explore?
  • What could I study after school?
  • What careers might suit my interests?
  • How might AI affect the fields I am considering?
  • Could I become an entrepreneur?
  • How do I turn an idea into a real project?
  • What capabilities should I start developing now?

We do not assume that every student needs an immediate answer. Sometimes the first step is better exploration.

Three coaching pathways

Support Shaped Around the Student

Growth Coaching

Confidence • Goals • Habits • Agency

Growth Coaching may explore:

  • Confidence
  • Communication
  • Organisation
  • Learning habits
  • Goal setting
  • Leadership
  • Initiative
  • Self-reflection
  • Independence
  • Project planning
  • Taking action

Helping students identify where they want to grow and translate that intention into practical action.

Student Mentoring

Experience • Perspective • Encouragement

Mentoring offers experienced perspective and encouragement — more than tutoring alone. Students learn from someone who has worked in areas they may want to explore. Focus areas can include:

  • Technology
  • Coding
  • Robotics
  • AI
  • Innovation
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Leadership
  • Communication
  • Student projects
  • Competitions
  • Portfolio development

A mentor does not replace parents or teachers. The mentor provides another constructive voice in the student’s development journey.

Career guidance

Beyond “What Career Should I Choose?”

Career development is becoming less linear. A student’s future may include employment, entrepreneurship, further education, technology, creative work or several different pathways over their working life.

The aim is future readiness, not future prediction.

Rather than focusing too quickly on a single job title, our approach encourages students to explore:

  • What problems they enjoy solving
  • What they are curious about
  • What capabilities they are developing
  • What environments energise them
  • What experiences they want to try
  • What opportunities they want to explore

Capabilities for school, work and life

Capabilities Students Can Carry Into Many Futures

Technologies and occupations will continue to change. Transferable capabilities can help students navigate that change with greater confidence and agency.

  • Communication
  • Critical Thinking
  • Creativity
  • Collaboration
  • Leadership
  • Digital Fluency
  • AI Literacy
  • Problem Solving
  • Initiative
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Adaptability
  • Learning How to Learn

Parent partnership

Parents Remain an Important Part of the Journey

Coaching should help students develop greater independence without disconnecting families from the process.

Depending on the student’s age and coaching arrangement, the process may include:

  • Initial parent conversation
  • Agreed developmental objectives
  • Student coaching sessions
  • Appropriate progress summaries
  • Recommendations for experiences or programs
  • Periodic parent/student reviews

Student trust, child safety and age-appropriate privacy are respected while maintaining appropriate parental involvement.
