MVPS Robotics & Engineering

Build an idea. Test a solution. Make it move.

An engaging introduction to engineering and robotics where students work together to build, program, test and improve their creations.

MVPS families — Innovate Forge Academy also offers public programs open to all families, including communication, creative writing and holiday learning. Explore the broader academy → MVPS classes remain exclusively for current Mount View Primary School students.

School-based after-school program

An established school-based learning experience helping MVPS students develop practical skills, confidence and creative problem-solving.

Innovate Forge Academy has delivered school-based programs at Mount View Primary School for more than 12 years. These classes are exclusively for MVPS students and are separate from our public classes at other locations.

What students explore

VEX IQ, VEXcode, virtual robotics and engineering

Students learn with VEX IQ kits, VEXcode and virtual robotics activities, building understanding of real engineering concepts.

Design and assemble

Planning and building a working mechanism.

Movement and sensing

Exploring gears, motors and sensors.

Program a sequence

Using VEXcode to tell a robot what to do.

Test a challenge

Trying a solution and observing what happens.

Improve the design

Making changes based on test results.

Work as a team

Sharing responsibilities and explaining results.

Illustrative

Example challenges

Examples only — projects vary by level and term.

  • Navigate a delivery route
  • Move or collect an object
  • Solve a movement challenge
  • Improve a mechanism after testing

Learning journey

A typical learning cycle

  1. Design
  2. Build
  3. Program
  4. Test
  5. Improve
  6. Share

Physical construction, discussion and testing are combined with purposeful programming time. Competition opportunities may be offered as a separate progression — term enrolment does not include competition entry, fees or team selection.

For parents

What your child develops

  • Teamwork and shared responsibility
  • Practical engineering understanding
  • Testing ideas and improving them
  • Persistence through challenges
  • Explaining results clearly

Devices

Does my child need a device?

Bringing your own device is preferred but optional for Robotics. Students who don't bring one use the shared class robotics kits and devices, working in small teams.

Platform

Learning supported by Forge

Where assigned to the program, Forge gives students access to relevant learning resources and activities that support their classroom projects.

Learning between sessions

Classes run weekly, so the week in between counts. Where resources are assigned in Forge, students can revisit what they worked on and keep their project moving before the next class.

  • Go back over lesson resources and examples from the week
  • Keep a class project moving between sessions
  • Practise in short sessions at home, at their own pace
  • Follow progress from home in the Forge parent portal

Practice between classes is optional — families choose what fits their week.
